Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic тязати (tjazati) (1sg. тяжу (tjažu)), from Proto-Slavic *tędzati. Cognate with Serbian Church Slavonic тѧзати (tęzati, to tear to pieces), Czech tázati (to ask), Slovak ťazať sa. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *tęgnǫti, with the Slavic progressive palatalization applied.
