Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Armenian բան ‎(ban, word). In Old Armenian it was used in Ancient Greek calques for translating λόγος ‎(lógos) in words like θεολόγος ‎(theológos) or θεολογία ‎(theología), which were rendered as աստուածաբան ‎(astuacaban) and աստուածաբանութիւն ‎(astuacabanutʿiwn). The practice continues now in calquing international (Latin) words with -logy, -logist, etc.
