Spanish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Spanish -arizo (still found in some cases), from Latin -āricius. The shift from /a/ to /e/ is probably by analogy with the related -ero, and the stressed /i/ (for expected */e/) by analogy with -izo.

Suffix[edit]

-erizo (adjective-forming suffix, feminine -eriza, masculine plural -erizos, feminine plural -erizas)

  1. forms relational adjectives, especially referring to animals
    cabra (goat) + ‎-erizo → ‎cabrerizo (goat (relational))

Suffix[edit]

-erizo m (noun-forming suffix, plural -erizos, feminine -eriza, feminine plural -erizas)

  1. forms nouns indicating a person who farms, tends or herds a specified type of animal
    cabra (goat) + ‎-erizo → ‎cabrerizo (goatherd)
