From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *keh₂id-, *kh₂eyd- (to cut, hew) + *-trom (instrumental suffix), related to (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin caelō (carve), caelum (chisel). Cognate with (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek κέστρος (késtros, sharpness).
