Etymology

From Latin sciaena, from Ancient Greek σκίαινα (skíaina, a sea-fish”, perhaps “a kind of grayling” or “ombre), from σκιά (skiá, shadow, shade) and -ινα (-ina, suffix forming related feminine nouns).
