From Ottoman Turkish چارپمق[1]. Compare Old Turkic çap-/çalp- (to hit, strike, raid)[2].

çarpmak (third-person singular simple present çarpar)

  1. to strike, bump, pound
    Yolda yürürken bana çarptı.He bumped into me while walking on the road.
    Yüreği korkudan çarpıyordu.His heart was pounding due to fear.
  2. to pilfer, steal
    Bunu onların evinden çarptım.I stole this from their house.
  3. (arithmetic) to multiply
    İkiyle üçü çarparsan altı eder.If you multiply two by three, it makes six.
