Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *mỳšь (mouse) (referring to the mouse-like appearance of a flexing muscle), from Proto-Indo-European *muh₂s. For semantic development, compare to Latin mūsculus (muscle, literally little mouse) and Ancient Greek μῦς (mûs, mouse; muscle).
