Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬀𐬫𐬈𐬥𐬙𐬈 (bayente, “they are afraid”), Old English bifian (“to tremble”), Old Church Slavonic боꙗти сѧ (bojati sę), Lithuanian bijóti (“to be afraid”).
