Etymology

Either from a Vulgar Latin root *vēscidus, from Latin vēscus, or more likely from Late Latin viscidus (deriving from an alternative meaning closer to that of bitter or sour as opposed to sticky), from Latin viscum.[1] Compare also Albanian vjeshtë (fall, autumn).
