From *aswinan (“mare's”) + dadan (“milk”), from *asva, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *éśwāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁éḱwos (“horse”). Compare ructandadan (“sour milk”).
Cognate with Lithuanian ašvà (“mare”), Sanskrit अश्व (áśva), Latin equus and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 370: Parameter "sc" should be a valid script code; the value "polytonic" is not valid. See WT:LOS..
