Etymology

Borrowed from Czech jediný, from Proto-Slavic *edìnъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *edīˀnas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁edʰ-(H)iHnos, with the *h₁edʰ- element of unclear origin, ultimately from *(H)óy(H)nos. Displaced Old Polish jedziny.
