Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish صیچرامق (sıçramak), probably a derivation of Proto-Turkic *sạč- (to scatter, spatter, sow), whence also saç-.

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (saçıra-, saçra-), Azerbaijani sıçramaq, Kazakh шашыра- (şaşyra-), etc.

Verb

sıçramak (third-person singular simple present sıçrar)

  1. to spring (jump or leap)
  2. (intransitive) to splash, to plash
