Etymology

From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese começar (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria); from Vulgar Latin *cominitiō, *cominitiāre, from com- + Latin initiāre, present active infinitive of initiō. For the phonetic evolution, compare Somoza.
