Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested with certainty as amspen in 1302. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps derived from Proto-Germanic *Amsanô (a hydronym) with -n- suffix. The element heem (home, settlement) is not evident from older forms of the toponym and etymologies built around it must be rejected.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈɑmp.sə(n)/
  • Hyphenation: Amp‧sen

Proper noun[edit]

Ampsen n

  1. A hamlet in Lochem, Gelderland, Netherlands.
