From Khmer អង្គរវត្ត (ʼɑngkɔɔ vŏət, “City of Temples”), from អង្គរ (ʼɑngkɔɔ, “royal city”) + វត្ត (vŏət, “temple”), from Sanskrit नगर + वाट (nagara + vāṭa, “city + enclosure”).
