Unknown. Possibly from a Proto-Indo-European root *gʰʷíh₂bʰ- (shame, pudenda). Cf. Tocharian B kwīpe, Tocharian A kip (vagina), Polish cipa (cunt) and Albanian cipë (sense of shame, membrane).
