Etymology[edit]

Variant spelling of Turkish Ayasuluk and Ottoman Turkish اياصـولق (Ayasuluk), from Byzantine Greek Ἅγιος Θεολόγος (Hágios Theológos, the Holy Theologian), from its 6th-century basilica dedicated to St John the Theologian, supposed author of the Book of Revelation. Doublet of Agios Theologos.
