Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from a Southeast European or West Asian language, possibly Serbo-Croatian babo (father), Zazaki babo (father) or Carpathian Romani babo (father), possibly influenced by Turkish baba (father, crime boss). Popularised by rapper Haftbefehl in "Chabos wissen wer der Babo ist" ("Boys know who the boss is").[1]
