[edit]Inherited from Proto-West Germanic *Bāgō, from Proto-Germanic *Bēgô, a derivation of Proto-Germanic *bēganą (“to fight”) (whence Old High German bāgan (“to fight”)). Other cognates include and Old Norse bági (“enemy”) and bágr (“difficult”), possibly found as ᛒᛅᚴᚱ (bakr). The name may have meant 'brave'.
