- (Utrecht) First attested as blokelant in 1261. Derived from Middle Dutch blokland (“land without access to nearby roads”), referring here to a section of uncultivated land located between several pieces of farmland.
- (Zuid-Holland) Attested as Blocklant in 1628. Derived from Middle Dutch blokland (“land without access to nearby roads”).
