- A maritime county of England bordered by the North Sea, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
Usage notes
Sometimes referred to simply as Durham, or more formally as the county of Durham, but never as Durham County. The county town is also named Durham.
