Etymology

Known as Cotrone from the Middle Ages until 1928, when the name was changed back to one closer to the original (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin name for the town, Croton or Croto (genitive Crotonis), ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek Κρότων (Krótōn) (Kroton). It is still called Cutroni in the local Sicilian dialect.
