Borrowing from Arabic الفَيُّوم (al-fayyūm), from Coptic ⲫ̀ⲓⲟⲙ (ph̀iom, the sea, Fayum), from Egyptian pꜣ ym (Lake Moeris, literally The Lake), from pꜣ (the) + ym (lake).
