Likely from a language in Vietnam's Central Highlands, compare Bahnar yang (“spirits, nonhuman beings”), Koho yang (“spirits”), Pacoh yang (“spirits”). Ultimately Austronesian (through Chamic), compare Malay hiang/yang.
