Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Potentially attested as ghodelde lant in 1280-1287. If the oldest attestation refers to the current settlement, a derivation from Old Dutch *Godhelde (a personal name) and lant (land) is possible. If the oldest attestation does not refer to the current settlement, a derivation from a compound of the hydronym Goo Wetering and land (land) is possible.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • Hyphenation: Goo‧land

Proper noun[edit]

Gooland n

  1. A hamlet in Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands.
