German

Etymology

From Grüner (member of a Green party) +‎ -in (female suffix). The formation is ungrammatical because -in cannot be added to nominalised adjectives. It is used to ridicule the party’s perceived obsession with gender-neutral language. Compare similar formations like Menschin (female human being).

Pronunciation

Noun

Grünin f (genitive Grünin, plural Grüninnen)

  1. (politics, derogatory) a member of a Green party, usually female
Die Grünen und Grüninnen haben mal wieder was gefunden, was sie verbieten wollen.
The Greens have come up with yet another thing they want to ban.
