German

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈhɔlɛndɪʃ/
  • Audio:(file)

Noun

Holländisch n (genitive Holländisch or Holländischen, no plural)

  1. Dutch (the Dutch language)

Usage notes

  • While Holland for “the Netherlands” is now fairly rare in formal contexts, Holländisch for the language remains more acceptable. One reason for this is that there is less room for confusion. Moreover standard Dutch is indeed, in large part, based on the dialects of the Holland region.
