Etymology

The surname Holton is of English origin, and was used to indicate the geographic location where a person had lived or owned land. The placenames are derived from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English, the first part has various meanings including "holt," which literally meant "forest", the second part is tūn (settlement)
