From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German huof, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *hōfaz, cognate with Dutch and West Frisian hoef, English hoof, Danish and Swedish hov, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *ḱoph₂ós. Non-Germanic cognates include Russian копы́то (kopýto) and Sanskrit शफ (śapháḥ).
