Samaritan transliteration

[edit]

@Wikitiki89, Happy New Year! I was just thinking that making a Samaritan transliteration module would be pretty straight forward. Based on w:Samaritan alphabet, it seems like the abjad is pretty simple and clear. Am I right in this? —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 08:12, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I suppose I should also mention this. —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 08:19, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I completed it, but I would love your opinion on any mistakes. —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 11:49, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@JohnC5: I actually don't know so much about Samaritan Aramaic phonology or vowel signs, so I can't be of much help to check the accuracy of the transliterations or the quality of the transliteration system in general. --WikiTiki89 15:26, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Wikitiki89, actually, sorry to pester, but looking again at the Samaritan Aramaic lemmas you've added, they seem to be misspelled according to the conventions I've found. It seems that you were primarily using Hebraic spelling conventions, but Samaritan Aramaic spells things differently. —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 12:22, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@JohnC5: Which entries are you referring to? I don't think I've actually added any myself, just corrected some of them. They were all added by User:יבריב. It did seem that he was mainly adding loanwords from Hebrew, with a few exceptions. --WikiTiki89 15:26, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Wikitiki89: Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking last night. They were all יבריב (for some reason my brain interpreted that as you; no offense), and most of them are wrong through because they use Hebrew spelling conventions. The problem is that I don't know how to fix them necessarily since the vowels are just wrong. I'm confident that this module is working correctly, however. Do you have Tal's A Dictionary of Samaritan Aramaic (I can send you one if you need)? It's primarily in Hebrew, but if you could correct Category:Samaritan Aramaic lemmas (30 lemmas), I would really appreciate your help. I can help do the actually pointing, but if you move them to the correct page and provide a transcription, then I think we can clean this up. I'm not exactly sure what to do about Category:Samaritan Hebrew lemmas (9 lemmas) because I don't have sources on this. I'm sorry to ask you to do this, but I think we can nip this in the bud while there are still only a few of these lemmas. Thank you. —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 23:36, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
