Etymology[edit]

From òṣómàáló (an Ìjẹ̀ṣà practice in which the loan giver sets up a tent in the vicinity of the debtor's abode), itself from òṣó (a squat) +‎ màá (I will) +‎ (squat), literally I will stay squatting [until I am paid].
