Etymology[edit]
First attested as parys in 1251. Derived from Middle Dutch Parijs (“Paris”). Named after the capital of France. Compare Demmerik, Hoograven, Laagraven, Kamerik, Kockengen, Kortrijk, Pavijen, Portengen, Snel en Polanen and Spengen.
