From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German pfluoc, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German pfluog, phluog, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *plōgaz, *plōguz (plough). Cognate with Low German Ploog, Dutch ploeg, English plough, Scots pleuch, plou, West Frisian ploech, North Frisian plog, Danish plov, Swedish plog, Icelandic plógur.
