Translingual[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Phorusrhacos +‎ -idae.

Proper noun[edit]

Phorusrhacidae

  1. A taxonomic class within the order Cariamiformes (but see below) – extinct flightless birds endemic to South America during the Cenozoic (62 to 0.1 million years ago); the terror birds.

Usage notes[edit]

Classification is disputed. The superfamily Phorusrhacoidea is not always used. Candidate taxonomies place Phorusrhacidae within the same group, classified as either order Cariamiformes or suborder Cariamae. For details, see Phorusrhacidae on Wikispecies.Wikispecies
