Proto-Finnic

Etymology

Akin to Proto-Samic *përkëtēk (to work), both possibly borrowings from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E.. The substitution *w → *p would be for phonotactic reasons.

Verb

Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E.

  1. to strive for, to endeavor
  2. to tend to do

Template:fiu-fin-conj

Descendants

  • Finnish: pyrkiä
    • Estonian: → pürgima (to grub, to penetrate into)
  • Ingrian: pürkiä
  • Karelian: pyrkie
  • Lua error in Module:etymology/templates/descendant at line 287: You specified a term in 4= and not one in 3=. You probably meant to use t= to specify a gloss instead. If you intended to specify two terms, put the second term in 3=.
  • Votic: pürtšiä
