From Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₂-nó-m, from *ḱerh₂- (head, horn). Cognate with Latin cornū, Sanskrit शृङ्ग (ṡṛṅga, horn), Old Church Slavonic сръна (srŭna, roedeer), Hittite [script needed] (surna, horn)[script needed].
