Etymology[edit]
Substantivization of the feminine of an adjective *pectorīnus, from pector- (“chest”, noun) + -īnus (adjective-forming suffix).
An identically-formed adjective later appeared in modern scientific Latin (Leukoma pectorina, 1818).
