Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Permic *täštä. Cognate with Kildin Sami та̄ссьт (tāss’t), Erzya теште (ťešťe) and Eastern Mari тиште (tište). According to Zhivlov (2015), possibly ultimately a substrate borrowing from the pre-Uralic languages of the Volga.[1]
