[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *kʷer-, *kʷern- (“bowl, vessel”). Cognate with Welsh pair (“cauldron”), Old Irish coire (“kettle”), Russian ча́ра (čára, “bowl”), Sanskrit चरु (carú, “bowl”).[1]
