[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *wíterom, adverbial accusative of *wíteros, from *wí (“apart”) + *-teros (comparative).[1] Particularly close cognate with Sanskrit वि॒त॒रम् (vitarám, “further”).[2] For the suffix development, compare *aftrą, but contrast the adjective *anþeraz.
