From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwgʰnas, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *réwgʰ-no-s (cream), from *rewgʰ- +‎ *-nos, from *rew- (to tear, dig, churn).[1] Possible cognate with Proto-Germanic *raumaz.
