Proto-Japonic[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From *ne- (“to sleep”, H accent).
The relation to *pur- (“to fall”, L accent) (c.f. English fall asleep) can be discarded due to the accent discrepancy.
(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Is this accent discrepency just because the first mora is high pitch?”)
