Reconstruction

[edit]

A tentative reconstruction.

The Georgian descendants, with the exception of ტირიფი (ṭiripi), are sometimes reasoned as being derived from ტერფი (ṭerpi, foot, sole):

According to Fähnrich, the form ტირიფი (ṭiripi, coltsfoot) seems to suggest that the aforementioned derivations from Georgian ტერფი (ṭerpi) are folk etymology.

Note also Lechkhumi Georgian ჯორტოფა, ჯორიტაფა, ჯორტოფილა (ǯorṭopa, ǯoriṭapa, ǯorṭopila, coltsfoot).

Noun

[edit]

*ṭerep-

  1. coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)
