Proto-Malayic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Malayo-Chamic *kakay. Compare Proto-Chamic *kakay (foot).

According to Thurgood (1999), perhaps from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *qaqay with unexpected *q > *k sound change. The expected reflex of PMP *q is *h, not *k.

Noun

[edit]

*kaki

  1. leg; foot
