Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *dʰowsyeh₂, from *dʰews- +‎ *-yeh₂. Equivalent to *duxъ (spirit) +‎ *-ja.

Compare Lithuanian daũsios f pl (air; empyrean, paradise), Gaulish dusios (phantasm).
