• Per Černykh: Possibly back-formed from Proto-Slavic *puzdro, from earlier *pōsra, Proto-Balto-Slavic *pausra, from Proto-Indo-European *pews-r-óm, from *pews- (“to swell, to blow”) (voicing in BSl. *-sr- is also attested in *nozdra (“nostril”)).
• Per Vasmer: Alternatively, may be related to Lithuanian рùžаs (“type of shrub”), perhaps from pre-Balto-Slavic *pewǵʰ- (?).
