Possibly from Middle Chinese (MC dijH).[1] Compare Proto-Mon-Khmer *tiʔ ~ tiiʔ ~ tiəʔ (that yonder), Mon တေံ (teʔ, that), Khmer ទី (tii), Vietnamese thì (then, which, to be), Malay di.
