Is *dʰgʷʰítis, the source of Latin sitis and Ancient Greek φθίσις (phthísis), based on this root? --Fsojic (talk) 19:15, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

It's possible, but I am not sure enough to commit to it without some more information. I know that sequences of dental and velar undergo metathesis in the non-Anatolian languages, and -gʷʰdʰ- would definitely give -φθ- in Greek. But I'm less sure about the Latin development. The semantics could be plausible but are still rather different. —CodeCat 19:29, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
What also confuses me is the word *dʰgʷʰítis itself. It looks like a normal -tis noun, but this would give *dʰégʷʰtis ~ *dʰgʷʰtéy- instead. —CodeCat 19:31, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
