Any idea if Proto-Turkic *ōt (fire) is related to the Iranian word? I've been looking on descendants of proto-Bulghar in Modern Bulgarian and the archaism ватог (vatog, hearth) (seemingly from Proto-Turkic *ōtok (tent, hearth)) with the typical splitting of initial *ō- > *va-/*vu- in Oghuric seems peculiarly similar to ватра (vatra, torch) which is from Proto-Iranian *ātr-. @Bezimenen: Doubtful. That's the problem with 3-letter words; you can find false cognates at every corner. --{{victar|talk}} 17:58, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Victar: Calm down a little, dude! I'm asking a question. I don't suggest any Nostratic or other theories. There are not one or two Turkic words, which are conjectured to be borrowings from Iranian. A typical example is Proto-Turkic *bāj (rich, nobel) from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰagás. It is possible that the *ōt could be borrowed, too. (I personally don't see an immediate reason why not) If you have a reason to disregard this hypothesis, I'd be thankful to hear it. If you don't, leave it be.
And before accusing me in anything, first point where I suggest the things you're claiming I propose? Where do I propose genetic relation between pIE and Turkic or between particular pIE word and pTurk word? Don't run into conclusions on your own! I find your ultra-zealous approach just as toxic as the fringe theories you are accusing me in supporting. Bezimenen (talk) 18:21, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bezimenen: Please see the links I left on your talk page. Probably best to continue this conversation there if you have further questions. --{{victar|talk}} 18:27, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
