This works as Proto-Iranian better. It has a Indo-European connection and analogy with other words parallelling its shape. And it is spread in the remotest areas of the Iranian language area, appearing native, with semantics fitting Iranian panthea, while the Semitic words are since qway deemed peculiar and probably borrowed. All is argued in Panaino, Antonio (2017) “The Origins of Middle Persian Zamān and Related Words: A Controversial Etymological History”, in Iran & the Caucasus[1], volume 21, number 2, Leiden: Brill, →DOI, pages 150–195, where page 153 it is also noted: “This situation, notwithstanding the evidence of the sources, is partly due to the distance between the works of the (Indo-) Iranists and those of the Semitists, who seem to ignore each other.” The Wiktionary page was created before this article, probably in consequence of a listing a Proto-Semitic by the Moscow School, that ignores much and of course reconstructs a Proto-Afroasiatic root on thin evidence, just like it reconstructs a word for “big knife” on the basis of the Persian loanword Arabic سِيخ (sīḵ, spit). Delete. Definitely a confusing origin, and definitely not PS. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:05, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Move: Should be moved to an Imperial Aramaic entry, 𐡆𐡌𐡍 (zmn) or 𐡆𐡌𐡀𐡍 (zmʾn). Also note the entry I created, Reconstruction:Proto-Iranian/ǰámaHnaH. --{{victar|talk}} 03:21, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is the relationship between the Aramaic and the Iranian forms known?  --Lambiam 21:50, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lambiam: Why don't you look at the article Fay linked above? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:04, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Moved the Proto-Semitic page to Imperial Aramaic and converted all etymologies that used to refer to it. Fay Freak (talk) 12:26, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
